Melody Chu, MA,  LPC

I am a native Texan, born and raised in Houston, TX. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and my Masters degree in Biblical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Since then, I have gained a lot of experience working with children, adolescents/teens and families. My great joy has been working with teens and young adults - a time where you are discovering a lot about yourself and solidifying and growing in confidence. Getting to be a part of that is exciting and an honor to me!

I specialize in working with individuals struggling with anxiety and overcoming insecurities that are affecting their relationships.

As a student, you learn that the therapeutic relationship is an important part of therapy. As I’ve gained experience in the counseling field, I’ve learned how foundational it is as a building block for profound change. I work hard to engage clients in a collaborative manner as we work together to process past traumas and build healthier and more confident versions of themselves.

My focus is to help my clients connect with their thoughts and feelings and grow in awareness of themselves and in relationships, all while on the way to lasting positive change. I strive to do that by helping them to identify their challenges, process their emotions on a deeper level and gain coping tools to manage their struggles. I often utilize CBT techniques. My hope is that my clients feel cared for, seen and walk away knowing that they are stronger and braver than they know.

On a personal note, I am an avid lover of reality cooking shows, anything outdoors and autumnal weather. These days, I am more often exploring nearby playgrounds and pools with my family. But loving the adventure all the same!

Jodi Sheffield, MS,  LPC

Hi! My name is Jodi Sheffield, LPC. I have had the privilege of working with families, teens, and adults on their journey of self-exploration and healing in community mental health, hospital and private practice settings. I have worked with clients with mood, personality, psychotic  disorders and substance abuse as well as clients who are experiencing trauma and significant life transitions/stressors.

My primary goal in therapy is to create a safe place for clients to explore, grow, learn and heal at their own pace. I utilize the empirically validated treatment modalities of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients learn how their thoughts, behaviors and feelings are connected to increase self-awareness. As self-awareness grows and develops, clients can begin the hard work of healing by reframing and combating unhealthy thoughts, behaviors and painful emotions in order to create a life worth living, a life full of meaning, value, and dignity.

I earned a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary, a CACREP accredited counseling program. My seminary education gave me the opportunity to explore the relationship between psychological science and spirituality, and the value of science and empirical research alongside faith and religious practices. I believe in the healing power of relationships. One healthy relationship can lead to healing in a client’s relationship with self and with others.

When I’m not in the office, you can find me playing sand volleyball, reading a good book or trying new restaurants for self-care. I look forwarding to learning your story and how to create meaning and to grow in the midst of pain, trials and transitions!”
